The reconstructed St. The industrial buildings in St. Stephen’s Square are to be reconstructed. St Stephen’s Square is to be landscaped and adapted for various leisure activities. The former industrial area is said to be transformed into an attractive green area. The project has been approved by Vilnius City Municipality and is awaiting a building permit.
Vilnius City Municipality MB “Coffee break LT”, the winner of the Surfing competition, will install the Citywave artificial wave infrastructure, and a part of the premises of approximately 685 sqm will be transformed into a service space for creative-educational and cultural activities, as well as into living quarters for residents.
The Citywave project will provide water activities for surfing professionals and beginners, as well as for those who want to start or try the sport.
The refurbishment will also include hotel facilities
The design proposals state that the two industrial buildings are to be combined into one sports building.
“The refurbishment project would involve renewing the roofing, cleaning and painting the existing brickwork in RAL 7030. The existing windows and doors would be finished with a rusted steel finish. The reconstructed building would be divided into three parts according to the function of the premises: (1) the existing premises would be used to provide 5 residents’ living quarters with a lounge and a kitchenette area. 2) cultural facilities. 2) The premises include an exhibition room, a restaurant area and a cloakroom. 3) Sports, catering and support facilities. This part of the building includes an artificial wave pool. The pool will be used by both professional surfers and beginners. Next to the pool there will be a cafeteria area, an administration area, auxiliary facilities – locker rooms, sanitary facilities, a swimming pool. Auxiliary rooms, equipment room. A terrace would be built outside,” the project proposals describe the reconstruction and adaptation of the buildings.
As there is no provision for vehicular movement and parking in St. Stephen’s Square itself, i.e. visitors to the future sports and cultural centre will not drive to the square in front of the building’s entrance, parking is provided in St. Stephen’s Street. Additional surface parking spaces will be provided.
A swimming pool of this type opens in Berlin
Last year, a similar pool opened in Berlin. This pool generates artificial waves for surfers. This specially designed pool uses advanced technology to create high quality, long waves that are ideal for surfing. Not only professionals but also beginners can train in this pool.
